Mauricio Limón
Mauricio Limón documents the sculptural transformation of a Mexico City
metro
sales kiosk into a candy confection environment that exploits the sculptural
possibilities of pink cotton candy. The camera captures several laborers
spinning the cotton candy and affixing the fluffy sweet clouds to the glass
walls
of the kiosk like bricklayers following a precise structural grid. Accompanied
by a kitschy cha-cha soundtrack, the entire enterprise takes on an aspect of
childlike fantasy that delights and puzzles commuters. The sculptural
intervention transforms the environment both physically and psychologically
because the
ephemerality of the project evokes forgotten childhood fantasies of palaces
filled with sweets and endless possibilities, with no worries about dental
cavities or stomachaches.
